What is Pilates?
Pilates is an exercise system evolved from the principles of Joseph Pilates. It dramatically transforms the way your body looks, feels and performs. You can build strength without excess bulk, creating a sleek, toned body with slender thighs and a flat abdomen.
Pilates teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. It improves core strength, flexibility and agility, and can help alleviate back pain.
Pilates is a safe, sensible exercise system using a floor mat or equipment. No matter what your age or physical condition, it can work for you!

Who does Pilates?
Professional dancers have known the benefits of Pilates for decades. Top athletes, especially golfers, use it for strength, flexibility and injury prevention. Hollywood celebrities and supermodels use it to maintain lean physiques.

Why Rubin's Pilates?
Dr. Rubin did not simply try Pilates as a new exercise 'kick' and take a 3 week course down the street. His years of experience in building body strength and aligning patients drew him to a modality that allows you to train, learn, connect - and then use these techniques on your own. Dr. Scott completed Pilates Trainer certification through Power Pilates out of New York with over 600 hours of graduate level training. He is the third chiropractor in the US to complete Pilates certification.

The Benefits of Pilates

A refreshing mind-body workout
Pilates gets your mind in tune with your body. By emphasizing proper breathing, correct spinal and pelvic alignment, and concentration on flowing movement, you become aware of how your body feels and how to control its movement. Quality of movement is valued over quantity of repetitions. Proper breathing is essential, and helps you execute movements with maximum power and efficiency. Learning to breathe properly can help you reduce stress.

Build long, lean muscle strength
Pilates elongates and strengthens your muscles, improving elasticity and joint mobility. A body with balanced strength and flexibility is less likely to be injured. Pilates conditions your whole body, even ankles and feet. No muscle group is over trained or under trained with accurate Pilates training. Your entire body is evenly balanced and conditioned, helping you enjoy daily activities and sports with greater ease and less chance of injury.

Develop a strong core - abs and back
Pilates exercises focus on your "core," or center of the body. The core consists of the deep abdominal muscles and those closest to the spine. Control of the core is achieved by integrating the trunk, pelvis and shoulder girdle.

Challenge Yourself
Pilates is an extremely flexible exercise system. Many of the exercises are performed in reclining or sitting positions, and most are low impact and partially weight bearing. Pilates is so safe, it is used in physical therapy facilities to rehabilitate injuries. Modifications to the exercises allow for a range of difficulty. Get the workout that best suits you now, and increase the intensity as your body gets stronger.
